RIP Maurice Sendak

Today the king of all wild things is gone. Maurice Sendak has passed away at 83. A big inspiration to me. I would have loved to have the chance to have met him, but I did get to see his original works on display in NYC. 

The characters pictured here are from Where the Wild Things Are, Little Bear, In The Night Kitchen, Higglety Pigglet Pop, Bumble Ardy, The Griffin and the Minor Canon and The Nutshell Library.

Rest in peace, Maurice, take care in that big rumpus in the sky. Thank you for all your wonderful gifts. When I look at your work I feel like my supper will always be hot.

That used to be me when I was single, haha. Maybe some of you shy single guys can relate to this, and maybe you single girls might learn something.

Totally went overboard with the coloring when I really wanted to try something simplistic. Oh well. Also the dudes hair was so annoying to draw!

I decided to film my August-January sketchbook. I know the camera is shaky, the quality is crappy, I’m not sure if the whole fast forward thing is good or not, and I’m pretty sure I stole this idea from someone else. Oh well, please enjoy anyway!

Croc-a-billy Sculpture

So here's something I completely forgot about. I made this sculpture like last summer but never really said anything about it and kept forgetting to post photos. I remember going to a Maurice Sendak show held at an animation gallery and seeing some sculptures that Dr. Seuss did of random made up animals. It got me inspired to do the same! So I chose my favorite animal and combined it with my favorite kind of music and this is what happened! A rebellious rockin' reptile equipt with leather jacket, greasy hair and biiiig teeth!











Here's some making-of photos. Started with tin foil and then covered it with super sculpy.







Baked it in the oven and then painted it with acrylics!



Sculpting is really fun and the end result is always satisfying. I definitely want to try it again once I get some free time. Maybe I'll do something smaller, this guy kinda takes up a lot of room...
